We used to live in Blucher Place,  just behind Grenville Place. The area was demolished to make way for the Churchill Square development. We moved to Manor Way in 1957 Mum, Dad, my brother John and me. What a difference! In the old house we had an outside loo, and no bathroom, a scullery, and a very small area outside the back door. Coming to Manor Way was so different, having a front and back garden and a good size too. There were allotments on the other side of the road, we rented one, and the following year came a bumper crop of King Edwards. Just up the road was Manor Park. John and I loved our football, so it was a great place to go. Some of the boys that played on the pitch I can remember. Alan Jefferies, Ray Jefferies, Steven Boyce, Tony Boyce, Colin Kennard, Micky Whatman, Greg Foat, Butch Reeves, Jack Fogden, Eric Fogden, Phil Godley.Great times indeed.

My dad moved to Manor Way as a child when Kents Court was demolished. He moved to a house three doors away from his parents when he married and lived there until he died at 87.
